All interesting bird records, whether rare or not, can be submitted to the county recorder. Submissions can be made by letter or preferably by email. For county rarities (Category A species) it is preferred if submissions are made by completing the Rarities Submission Form.
Please send your bird records in as soon as possible and by no later than 31 October 2009. Of particular interest are counts of wintering passerines, including thrushes, pipits, larks, wagtails, finches and buntings, plus flocks of waders, gulls and waterfowl. Any breeding bird data, i.e. counts of singing males in one particular area, or records from nest box schemes are also of interest. Also submit descriptions of any unusual birds you’ve encountered in the county. Some birds are particularly scarce or rare in the county and are listed as Category A or Category B species. The lack of an acceptable description may lead to records being rejected. A much more detailed description will be required for difficult to identify species, e.g. Caspian Gull and Ring-billed Gull than for example, a White Stork. In addition, written descriptions are also required for scarce sub-species/races, including limosa race Black-tailed Godwit, Scandinavian Rock Pipit, flava race wagtails, autumn White Wagtails, Greenland Wheatear and Chiffchaff races. Please visit the Bird Recording Page for the complete county list and the current status of each species. Rarity descriptions can be submitted online by using the Rarities Submission Form.
Please note: Ideally any document attachments should be in Microsoft Word, Works or Excel
Category A - these species require a full written description to confirm that the correct identification has been achieved.
Category B - these species require the observers name(s) for the record to be accepted but a brief description may also requested, particularly if the record is from an unusual location or at an unusual time of the year.
Category C - these species do not fall within the above categories for recording purposes but are still of interest to be included on the sightings page of this website.
Other Species - these species will not generally be included on the sightings page due to the number of birds occuring annually but early/late records of summer & winter visitors will be included. All records can of course be submitted to the county recorder.
